Fernand Léger was fascinated by the circus as a child, an obsession which continued into adulthood, discerning circular shapes specific to art of horses running around the ring and jugglers with their whirling hoops. It was therefore natural that he drew and painted the circus, creating costumes for Fratellini, and with multiple references to the circus in his other works.The exhibition held in Biot presents his series on the circus, such as Les Parades, placing the works in context and demonstrate Léger's aesthetic ambition.
